About the facilitators
Dee Adams, PhD, LPC, LMFT has been in private practice since 1987 specializing in couple counseling. Dr. Adams has 3 degrees in marriage and family studies from Ohio State, Michigan State, and Florida State and did post doctorate study in counseling at LSU. She taught marriage and family classes for a year at both Louisiana Tech and at LSU. Dee has done over 27,047 hours of counseling with over 2,584 clients (a couple is equivalent to one client). From 1991-2021 she served as the founding Director of Baton Rouge Christian Counseling Center (BRCCC), a ministry of First Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Adam’s study of EFT started in 2009 with Dr. Sue Johnson and in 2011 became the first certified Emotionally Focused Therapist in Louisiana. Along with her husband, Pete, they have participated in 3 and taught 19 different Hold Me Tight or “Created for Connections” weekend workshops impacting more than 400 couples.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dee became a Christian through Young Life in 1968. She married Pete Adams in 1980, is childfree by choice and they have been members of the Chapel on the Campus since 1980. Pete Adams, Attorney at Law and Certified Coach - Pete retired in 2019 after serving for 44 years as the Executive Director of the Louisiana District Attorneys Association, a not-for-profit corporation, and as Director of the Louisiana District Attorneys Retirement System for 25 years. Pete managed a staff of 22 people, including 3 attorneys and an annual budget of over $3 million. He also directed a variety of projects including professional training, implementation of automated case management systems, and liaison with administrative, legislative, and judicial agencies.
Pete and Dee were trained as PAIRS leaders (Practical Application of Intimate Relationship Skills) and taught PAIRS together 4 times. PAIRS was a 16-week course for couples that included 3 hours of education per week plus 4 full weekends of instruction. Pete completed a 4-day Externship in EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) with Dr. Sue Johnson in 2009 in San Diego Pete currently maintains a private law practice and a private coaching practice on career and relationship matters. “Papa Pete” has 2 adult children, 12 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. The Chapel on the Campus has been Pete and Dee’s church home for 43 years. They still attend and sit in the same section where Pete prayed to receive Christ on November 30, 1980.
